Empowering Communities with Quality Care
For over a decade, The Ronnie Fund has focused on improving the health and well-being of underserved communities in Kenya. Through partnerships with local health volunteers, medical professionals, and international donors, we aim to enhance access to healthcare, provide essential tools, and improve health education in rural and urban areas.
Community Health Volunteers (CHVs): The Frontline of Healthcare
Our Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) are the backbone of our health initiatives. We equip them with the necessary training and tools to address health challenges within their communities..
Blood Pressure Monitors and Smartphones: Our CHVs use these tools to monitor vital signs, such as blood pressure, and share patient data remotely with nurses, especially for patients who cannot travel to clinics.
Linking Communities to Healthcare: By facilitating communication between patients and medical professionals, CHVs play a crucial role in early diagnosis and treatment.
Mental Health Support: We recognize the importance of mental health in overall well-being. Our CHVs receive training to provide mental health support and counseling services, helping to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health issues in local communities.
Building Local Health Capacity: Establishing the First Health Center
One of our proudest achievements was the establishment of the community’s health center, thanks to the late Dr. Gordon Riddle from Canada.
County Government Partnership: Today, the health center is supported by the County Government, while we continue to provide additional resources such as medical supplies and health equipment.
Ongoing Support: We aim to expand the health center’s capacity to offer more specialized services in the future, ensuring sustainable healthcare for the local population.
Medical Camps: Bringing Healthcare to Those in Need
In our effort to extend healthcare access, we have organized several medical camps in both rural and urban settings, such as Kibera, Nairobi’s largest informal settlement.
Free Health Services: Our medical camps offer free check-ups, diagnostics, and treatment for various conditions. These camps are particularly beneficial to those who are unable to access regular healthcare services due to distance, cost, or other barriers.
Specialist Support: Volunteer medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and health practitioners, have joined us during these camps, providing specialized care such as eye exams, dental check-ups, and maternal health services.
Collaboration with Medical Professionals: A Global Network of Support
We are deeply grateful to our global partners, especially Dr. Karen Yeates of Queen’s University, whose mentorship and expertise have been instrumental in guiding our health initiatives.
Student Volunteers: Medical students from international institutions have joined us in the field, positively impacting the communities we serve by offering hands-on support during medical camps and training programs.
Knowledge Exchange: These partnerships not only improve healthcare delivery in Kenya but also provide a valuable cross-cultural learning experience for medical professionals and students alike.
Future Goals: Expanding Access and Services
At The Ronnie Fund, we continue to focus on expanding our healthcare programs to serve more communities in Kenya. Our future initiatives include:
Mobile Ambulances: Expanding our reach by introducing mobile ambulances equipped to provide emergency healthcare services, ensuring timely access to medical assistance in remote and underserved areas.
Health Education Programs: Implementing more comprehensive health education programs to train community members in preventive health measures.
Mental Health Expansion: Enhancing our mental health support systems by training more CHVs in mental health first aid and counseling.
